Basement Mini-Studio

I had been wanting a desk or table where I could put my iPad, computer, or other recording equipment while playing guitar in the basement. Our basement is small, though, and a multi-purpose space, so I wanted something that could be mounted to the wall and was adjustable in height or could fold-away. I figured that that way, I could both put away the table to free up space when I wasn't using it, and also that, if adjustable in height, it could be rearranged for Julian to use in a variety of ways.

I found this desk on Etsy. It was made in Ukraine and would take a month or two to get, but it was so unique that I didn't hesitate to buy it and pay $150 for shipping. Not only can you rearrange the shelves at a variety of different heights, but you can also store them behind the rack when you aren't using them. It was so cool and I couldn't find anything else like it.

After the delivery date came and passed, I reached out to the seller. He told me that the desk was destroyed when Russia bombed a Nova Post sorting center. (Nova Post is a private express delivering and logistics company.) I think it was this attack. What a shame...

A few days later, I drove past a Lowe's, went in and saw that they sell ClosetMaid build-your-own shelving system parts, and figured that this would get me the desk/table that I wanted. All I had to buy was a hangtrack (the horizontal piece at the top), two standards (the vertical pieces that attach to the hangtrack and have inserts for shelf brackets), brackets, two shelves, and hardware. The shelf that I would use as a desk/table would be small (only two feet wide), but that was okay because there is not a lot of space and I don't need anything massive. The shelves won't fold away, but you can easily adjust their height, so if I want to put them away, I can just put them up high, and if Julian wants to use a shelf for some reason (to color or station a toy car, for example), I can easily lower it.
