False ceiling

There is a false ceiling made of floorboards underneath the roof of my garage and a lot of empty space in between that I'd like to use for storage. I want to remove portions of the boards while leaving other sections in place so that I have a mix of shelves and openings that I can use to access the shelves. (Initially I was going to remove all of the boards and install new 4x8 sub-floorboards, but then I realized that this approach would be more expensive and laborious than the one that I just explained.)

Sanding

You can see that the paint on the floorboards and joists is peeling. (A lot of it already has peeled off and regularly litters the garage floor, which is annoying.) I'm going to sand all of these boards to remove all of the peeling paint remnants.

Cleaning

You can see in these next two pictures that above the floorboards there is a lot of debris and old nails in the middle of the boards that serve no purpose. I'm going to remove the nails and sweep out all the debris.

Refill the garage

I was able to get a ton of stuff out of our basement, most of which is now stored above the ceiling in the garage. I was also able to move some stuff that was in the main area of the garage up high in order to create more space down below. This allowed me to put up a third bike rack and bring in Julian's basketball hoop. There will also be more space for Ally's car when she parks inside the garage in the winter.
