Podcast: It's a Bird's World

This mini-series comes from The Compass podcast by BBC World Service. It explains how bird behavior/activity tells us about environmental changes--those that have already happened, as well as more that may be coming.

The coolest part was in episode 2 when they talked about the connection between noise pollution and the pitch/frequency at which birds sing. When noise pollution is high, birds have to sing at higher pitches in order to be heard. Ultimately, if this continues long enough, bird species will evolve to completely lose the ability to sing at lower pitches. But, the writers found, with the reduction in noise pollution that came with Covid-19 (more closures = less traffic, right?), birds were reviving their ability to sing at lower pitches because for the first time in a long it, these pitches could be heard by other birds.
